New Delhi: Union Minister and Janata Dal (U) leader RCP Singh has not joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and he was in Telangana to attend a committee meeting, as reported by news agency ANI. RCP Singh, who is considered close to Nitish Kumar, is one of the veteran leaders of JDU.
RCP Singh, an IAS officer of UP cadre, first came in contact with Nitish when he was posted as private secretary to the then Union Minister Beni Prasad Verma in 1996. The friendship between Nitish Kumar and RCP Singh also deepened because both are from Nalanda in Bihar. It is also said that Nitish Kumar was greatly influenced by RCP Singh's role as a bureaucrat.
Sources in the BJP denied the reports that JD(U) leader and Union minister RCP Singh has joined the saffron party, as reported by PTI.
Singh was invited by the BJP workers at the Hyderabad airport as a Union Steel Minister and NDA partner, the sources said.
He came to Hyderabad to go to the parliamentary panel meeting of his ministry.
There was speculation about his next strategy after JD(U) top brass denied him a Rajya Sabha ticket despite being the leader of the party's quota.
